Born 1992 in Přerov, Czech Republic, Marek Urbánek is one of the prominent young voices of the Czech jazz scene. He began his jazz drumming studies with Kamil Slezák and later continued at VOŠ Jaroslava Ježka in Prague, where he immediately became a sought-after musician.
Recently, he finished his bachelor’s degree in the Jazz Interpretation Department of HAMU in Prague. Among the musicians with whom he has toured, recorded and collaborated, such names emerge: Melanie Scholtz (South Africa), Brian Charette (USA), Osian Roberts (UK), Sharon Lewis (USA), Jiří Nedoma, Pavel Wlosok, Karel Růžička Jr., Steve Walsh (USA), Skip Wilkins (USA), Daniel Wilkins (USA), Robby Marshall (USA), Shauli Einav (IZ), Pat Bianchi (USA), David Restivo (CAN), Andrew Lilley (South Africa), Bob Montgomery (USA), Al Herman (USA), Eric Wyatt (USA), Luca Giordano (IT), Live Foyn Friis (NOR), Stian Victor Lervik Swensson (NOR), Jo Fougner Skaansar (NOR), Karel Růžička Sr., David Dorůžka, Jaromír Honzák, Jiří Slavík, Tomáš Liška, Luboš Soukup, Josef Fečo, Roman Pokorný, Libor Šmoldas, Matúš Jakabčic CZ/SK Big Band, VOŠ Big Band, Wrgha Powu orchestra. Moreover, Marek has also been part of the panel in the ZUŠ Jazz Ensemble Competition from Litvínov in 2014, and the Jazz Do It Workshop in Česká Lípa.
