He started his active career in 1991 in Brno as a member of combos of soloists of Gustav Brom Bigband. Member of Mojmír Bártek All Stars, Jaromír Hnilička Jazz Trio, Quarter Günter Kočí Quartet and other bands.
He founded his first quartet in 1992 with Standa Mácha (piano), Petr Dvorský (acoustic bass) and Marek Patrman (drums). In 1993 he became member of Boris Urbánek's fusion band TUTU and was nominated for Czech Jazz Society award 'Jazzový Kája' as The Best New Artist.

He has worked with:
Alberto Marsico, Láďa Kerndl , Yvone Sanchez, Chris Stanley, Steve Clarke, Ondřej Pivec, Vincenc Kummer and others.

In 1999 he toured USA and performed at jazz festivals in Beyrut and Berlin, released the album 'Blue Point'.

In 2004, Pokorný has released a multimedial double album Two Faces with a Jazz Trio (with Ondřej Pivec on Hammond organ and Martin Novák on drums) and Blues Box Heroes (with blues veteran Tony Smrčka). He has also released fusion album Hot Jazz News with Steve Clarke on bass guitar (form.w.Laco Deczi, Mike Stern...), Chris Stanley on drums (form w.George Benson, Anthony Jackson...) and Jakub Zomer on Fender Rhodes. In spring 2012 the project Feelin ́ The Spirit was created to pay tribune to legendary jazz guitarist Grant Green. This band has recorded and in the spring 2013 released the double album 'Feeling The Spirit'. Album Eldorado was released in 2013 and another album, recorded in New York Brooklyn Session was released in 2016
