Miroslav Hloucal (CZ)
Miroslav Hloucal is one of the most prominent figures in contemporary Czech jazz. He is a respected jazz trumpeter, arranger, composer and long-time educator who influences the younger generation of musicians not only with his performances on stage, but also with his systematic teaching and original approach to jazz improvisation. He is known for his technical prowess, musical sensitivity and openness to modern jazz trends.
He has performed and recorded with a number of personalities from the Czech and international jazz scene - Emil Viklický, Karel Růžička, František Uhlíř, Roman Pokorný, Gustav Brom Big Band, Benny Golson, Harry Sokal or Hiram Bullock, with whom he toured Europe as a member of the brass section of The Czech Horns.
He has won several prestigious awards for his work, such as 1st place with the band Points at the competition in Getxo (The Getxo International Jazz Festival - Concurso de Grupos -Spain) and the award for best soloist at the competition in Hoeilaart (Jazz Hoeilaart - Belgium).
In addition to his active musical career, Miroslav Hloucal is dedicated to teaching. He works at the International Conservatory in Prague, where he specializes in teaching trumpet, jazz interpretation and improvisation. His teaching style combines respect for traditional techniques with an emphasis on creative thinking, working with sound and the ability to navigate modern harmony. He is the author of several methodological materials and actively contributes to the education of young jazzmen in the Czech Republic and abroad at various workshops - LJD Karel Velebný, Aarnsberg Jazzworkshop (DE) and others.
Miroslav Hloucal's style is built on a clear tone, phrasing inspired by hard bop classics (e.g. Freddie Hubbard or Woody Shaw) and the ability to organically connect compositional thinking with improvisational spontaneity. His music reflects the influence of both traditional jazz and modern trends, including elements of free improvisation and fusion.
