Double bass and bass guitar player, composer, arranger, studio and concert player.

A native of Náchod, he grew up in Červený Kostelec (East Boheia region). At the age of eleven, he began to study the double bass at music school in Hronov with prof. Vl.Kožešník, followed with his six-year studies at the Brno Conservatory (double bass) in the class of Alois Kříž and Karel Kopřiva.
In the years 1985-1989 he played in the Czechoslovak Television Orchestra and at the same time began to work on the Czech jazz scene with leading Czech jazzmen.
Since 1990 he has been a member of the accompanying band of Czech superstar chansonnier Hana HEGEROVÁ.
In 1996 he founded his own group under ROBERT BALZAR TRIO.
In 1998 he joined the funk formation J.A.R.
In 2000 he co-founded the solo project of singer Dan Bárta - ILLUSTRATOSPHERE.
The DAN BÁRTA & ROBERT BALZAR TRIO project also resulted from this cooperation.
Robert Balzar participates in many studio projects of our and foreign production.

Robert Balzar has extensive experience in teaching at numerous workshops and is also a full-time teacher (double bass and bass guitar) at the International Conservatory in Prague.

As one of the main Czech acoustic bass/bass guitar figures on Czech and european jazz scene he has collaborated with many world-class jazz legends, such as Joe Newman, Benny Bailey, Hal Galper, Tony Scott, Lew Tabackin, Tony Lakatos, Victor Lewis, Craig Handy, Benny Golson, John Abercrombie and many others.
